Farewell and Reflection

An emotional farewell at the airport prompts reflections on the significance of home for those working abroad.

chiemerie repentance

I remember escorting my friend to the airport. There was this old woman walking with a young boy as she made her way to the boarding area. Tears rushed down her cheeks as she gave him a firm hug. She said, "Odenigbo, always remember home. Allow it to direct your actions at all times." As they said their goodbyes, those words remained cemented in my heart.

I couldn't help but think about this emotional scene. It got me thinking about our brothers working abroad and trying to make life better for themselves and for people back home. Perhaps, like Odenigbo, they could carry a piece of home with them – not just in memories but as a driving force.

As the plane took off with my friend, I thought about people traveling to distant lands. They bear, as Odenigbo did, the hope and expectations of their families. Physical distance cannot separate them from one another. The house that once served as home now serves as a haven of support and a beacon of hope in strange lands.

So, to our brothers overseas, striving to make a difference for themselves and those at home, remember the elderly woman's words: "In all you do, remember home's condition." Allow it to serve as your compass, a source of inspiration, and a wellspring of fortitude when confronted with obstacles. May the memories of home be a motivator and a bright light in all that you do, just like it was for Odenigbo.

I hope we'll all gather at the goal attainment table sharing glasses of wine and thanking God for everything achieved.
